Color- and cut-off register measuring systems are today part of the standard equipment of web offset printing presses. The task lies in monitoring and in control processes, thereby the sensor electronics for Closed Loop Systems (systems with a closed control circuit) are an important component of continuous automation in web offset. Components such as color- and cut-off marks as well as other in-line measuring systems are integrated into the overall design of the printer. The combination of these of various modules in one place guarantees optimum performance.
Color register measuring system (FRS) is defined as the accuracy of the overlay of the individual inks longitudinally and transversely. Mark deviations are detected by optical sensors through the smallest measuring component, the printed register marks, and corrected via regulator using positioning devices.
The cut-off register measuring system (SRS) designates the position of the transverse cut-off of the paper track to the printed image. This cut is made in the folder or the transverse cutter. Sensors are scanned and line deviation compensated by adjustment of a linear driven guide roller.
The use of automation modules leads to a constant quality throughout the edition and savings on paper waste in the various operating modes, in bold printing as in start-up or changing the speed of the machine. Waste rate remains constantly low, even during reel changes and washing processes.
